MANAMA: ASRY (Arab Shipbuilding & Repair Yard), the leading maritime engineering facility in the Arabian Gulf, has sponsored the recent Solar Technology Energy and Environment Bahrain (STEEB) Exhibition and Conference as part of its commitment to renewable energy in the Kingdom. The shipyard exhibited at the event as well as hosting the full international delegation attending the exhibition with a tour and VIP lunch at the company premises.

“As one of the larger consumers of energy in the Kingdom, we fully support the leadership’s ambitious drive to increasing the contribution of sustainable sources to the national grid,” commented ASRY Chief Executive Andrew Shaw on the sidelines of the show, where he held talks with Bahrain Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs Dr. Abdulhussain bin Ali Mirza. “Our long-term plan is to utilize ASRY’s substantial footprint to become one of the pillars of clean energy in the community.”

ASRY’s has many established environmental initiatives, including the company’s sewage treatment plant, which was the first in Bahrain to employ the highly sustainable organic reed-bed treatment system couple with Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR). The yard also has a sludge treatment plant which recycles polluting oil sludge removed crude oil carriers and reuses it for landscaping purposes.
